RECONSTRUCTION reflection

 Throughout the reconstruction video, they made a point to bring up the many positives of the new freedom for blacks. They also made a point to show how challenging it is to live in that time regardless of their new freedoms. Many blacks became incorporated with our government and strived to continue to make changes and push for freedom and equality. An example of this that surprised me I did not know that public schools were brought into play by blacks in the government. They had been created to give black children a chance to further their education. Another thing I found interesting is that they talked about how when schooling was available for blacks, all ages would attend. This took me by surprise because I could not imagine being in school with someone my parent's age or older learning the same content. But school was a huge move forwards for blacks they could now be educated and get higher level education that allowed them to move up in society. This also backfired in some cases because whites got upset and the kkk was born. The kkk went after these blacks that pushed for more equality and made big impacts they tried to stop and destroy the impact they were making. The public schools were separated by color because whites would refuse to go to school with blacks and the blacks typically wanted their children to have a black teacher as they thought a white teacher would not be far. Blacks started to fear the kkk as it grew in power and size. The blacks in power later pushed for justice and started holding the kkk responsible which made a lot of members hide and leave their states to avoid being charged.
